Het is een breed begrip en dus niet afgekaderd met concrete wet en regelgeving. Het is dan ook deze politietaak die de meeste discussie met zich meebrengt, ook bij collega’s onderling. Soms is het net of je politieagenten kan opdelen in twee groepen.
Groep 1: kort door de bocht, lomp, werken hard, autoritair en niet heel fijn gevoelig, veel aanhoudingen en dito bekeuringen, maar erg fijn om tijdens een vechtpartij naast je te hebben staan.
Groep 2: Groter empathisch vermogen, meer begrip, pakken minder snel fysiek door maar praten liever wat langer, zijn minder gehecht aan hun uniform en voelen zich ook prettig in het zogenaamde grijze gebied van politiewerk. Waarschuwen meer dan dat ze bekeuren als je ook daar een vergelijk in wil hebben.
Als groep 2 aan groep 1 uit moet gaan leggen dat ze toch even langs die bejaarde man moeten rijden die totaal overstuur is omdat zijn vrouw net overleden is en hij even zijn verhaal kwijt wil over de volgens hem dubieuze omstandigheden. ( volgens de huisarts niets aan de hand, gewoon een hartstilstand) Dan stuit je bij groep 1 op verzet. Het is geen politietaak is het antwoordt. Misschien niet, maar die man belt wel de politie, omdat hij daar nog vertrouwen in heeft en van vroeger uit respect voor heeft. Moeten we die man dan afwijzen en zijn beeld van een eerlijke wereld nog verder verstoren? Ik vind van niet, dus ik ben naar die man toe gegaan en heb even zijn verhaal aangehoord. Mijn maatje zat zich te verbijten, maar dat is het voordeel van zelf het dienstvoertuig besturen, dan bepaal ik…..( Althans bij kleine zaken zoals deze dan.)
